Thousands of people annually visit the

Pipestone

NaƟonal

MonƵment.

MonƵment preserves the pipestone ƋƵarries

and elements of NaƟve American cƵltƵre.

OnlLJ American /ndians are allowed to ƋƵarrLJ

the pipestone. dheLJ make pipes and other

items from the pipestone.

dhe MonƵment provides a sƵrprisinŐ relief

from the Őeneral plains of the sƵrroƵndinŐ

reŐion. SioƵdž YƵartnjite is edžposed alonŐ the

creek rƵnninŐ throƵŐh the MonƵment.

AƩracƟons inclƵde operaƟnŐ ƋƵarries, a Circle doƵr which leads past

the ƋƵarries, naƟve plants and rock formaƟons. Special aƩracƟons

inclƵde Winnewissa &alls, >eapinŐ rock, and the Nicollet džpediƟon

Marker.

A cƵltƵral center helps to edžplain the art of pipemakinŐ. American

/ndians can ďe oďserved makinŐ sacred pipes MaLJ throƵŐh the end of

Septemďer.

Of ŐrowinŐ interest at the MonƵment is the wide varietLJ of tall Őrass

prairie plants. ManLJ of these are idenƟĮed alonŐ the Circle drail.

Wildlife is also of interest. Ask at the sisitor Center for more complete

informaƟon.

inclƵdes nƵmeroƵs ďooks dealinŐ with American /ndians, s ͛s, ŐiŌ

items, C ͛s, pipestone pipes and other pipestone items.

Free entry dates

Pipestone NaƟonal MonƵment joins all naƟonal parks in

waivinŐ their entrance fees on 10 special daLJs in 2017. dhese
