A large drug bust was made Sunday by Phelps County
deputies following a routine traffic stop during a selected
enforcement operation on County Road 7300. Approxi-
mately 200 pounds of marijuana was confiscated.
On December 16, the Phelps County Sheriff’s Depart-
ment initiated a selective enforcement operation on
County Road 7300.
This operation was
conducted to enforce
voluntary compliance
with State and Local
Traffic Laws.
At about 12:55 p.m.,
deputies stopped a Sil-
ver Mitsubishi passen-
ger car for running a
stop sign. During the
course of the traffic
stop the deputy became
suspicious of other
criminal activity and a
department K-9 was
dispatched to the
scene. When the dog
arrived, he was de-
ployed and alerted on
the vehicle. A subse-
quent search of the vehicle found almost 200 pounds of
marijuana in the trunk.
Denise L. Cazee-Manes, 59, of Tucson, Ariz., was ar-
rested for drug trafficking in the first degree. She was in-
carcerated in the Phelps County Jail on $250,000 bond.
With the help of a witness, Phelps County deputies
were recently able to make an arrest of a suspect in con-
nection with a rural burglary that results in the loss of
about $12,000 worth of property.
At about 10:30 p.m. on December 11, deputies were dis-
patched to the 15000 block of State Route F for a reported
burglary. During the on-scene investigation it was deter-
mined that an assortment of items had been taken with-
out the owner’s permission. Some of the items included
saddles, vehicle batteries, copper wiring, acetylene torch
tanks,
aluminum
wheels, radiators, a
rifle and a log splitter.
The estimated loss of
the property and dam-
ages caused to the
building during the
theft
was
about
$12,000.
When the on-scene
investigation was com-
plete, a check of the im-
mediate area located
an eyewitness who pro-
vided a vehicle descrip-
tion
and
license
number. While follow-
ing up on the license
number, suspect infor-
mation was developed.
On December 14,
after the suspect was
fully identified, he was
located and arrested. Several items, including a saddle, a
rifle and the log splitter, were also recovered.
At 10:40 p.m. on December 14, Kyle C. West, 22, of
Rolla, was arrested for burglary, possession of stolen prop-
erty, property damage, trespassing and unlawful use of a
weapon in the 12000 block of County Road 7130. He was
incarcerated in the Phelps County Jail pending the is-
suance of an arrest warrant. On December 15, a warrant
was issued and bond was set at $200,000.
